A small ceremony was held last Saturday to mark the 278th anniversary of the Battle of Littleferry.
The commemoration took place at the Battle of Littleferry memorial stone at Ferry Road, Golspie.
It was organised by Kenny MacAulay, chairman of the Golspie branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, and a member of the Battle of Littleferry project team.
Piper Major Malcolm Paton played a lament to the Fallen.
Sutherland Lord-Lieutenant Patrick Marriott gave a short address on the meaning of “commemoration” and the respect owed to both sides at the battle for their courage and integrity.
There followed a period of silence and reflection.
Wreaths were laid by the Lord-Lieutenant and the Golspie RBLS branch as well as by Bruce Pitcher and Denise Hardy from Yorkshire. A relative of Mr Pitcher helped a wounded Jacobite soldier following the battle and enabled his escape to the west.
Members of the royal Oak Society of Scotland laid wreaths on the Friday evening.
