A DESIGN by talented young art student Mali Fritz (14), of Bonar Bridge, has been selected as a logo for Golspie Community Council.
The stunning design features the outline of well-known buildings in the Golspie area including Dunrobin Castle, the Duke of Sutherland’s statue at the top of Ben Bhraggie and the Countess of Sutherland Memorial Fountain at Fountain Road.
Art pupils at Golspie High School were challenged some months ago to come up with a logo to represent Golspie Community Council.
The challenge was initiated by secretary Henrietta Marriott who felt that it would not only be beneficial for the community council but also engage pupils with the group's work.
Yasmin Borthwick, head of the school’s art department was delighted at the approach and set her students to work.
They were given the brief to come up with a design that would sum up the essence of Golspie.
Community councillors were then asked to choose from a selection of drawings.
Ms Marriott said members had been extremely impressed by the creativity and imagination shown by pupils.
Mali told the Northern Times that she had been inspired by Golspie’s infrastructure.
“My inspiration came from the various landmarks associated with Golspie, alongside houses from the village to represent the community,” she said.
Her design will now be used on official letters and cards sent out by the community council.
Golspie Council’s next meeting is on Monday, June 12.
