A FUNDRAISING golf day, now held in memory of two local men, returns to Dornoch this summer after being hosted by Tain Golf Club last year.

The Pinky Col Invitational (PCI) evolved from several local golfers playing a match on the day after Dornoch Highland Games – held on the first Friday in August. A fun event, participants dress in pink.

The late Alex Campbell, who worked at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, came up with the idea of playing for a sweep with the winner donating the proceeds to charity.

Sadly Alex died on November 5, 2018, and his family suffered more tragedy with the death of his nephew Stuart Campbell (Nipper) on August 7, 2020.

Their friend James Herbertson said: “Both left a huge void in the lives of family and friends and are greatly missed. What started as a charitable fun day of golf has become a fitting memorial for both Alex and Stuart.”

The 2022 event was won by Alex’s brother-in-law Ben Hallam and raised a fantastic £2750 which went to Dornoch Junior Football Team and Dornoch Fire Brigade at Ben’s behest.

Previous recipients of the prize fund have been Dornoch Beach Wheelchairs, Chris’s House and Assynt Mountain Rescue amongst many others.

Mr Herbertson continued: “Tain Golf Club extended an incredible welcome to everyone in 2022 and made it a wonderful day for all involved.

“A huge thanks goes to Colin and Ingrid Murray who continue to organise the day in memory of Stuart and Alex. The group won’t be hard to miss on the Struie course this year as all players will be, as ever, bedecked in pink. Keep an eye out.”
