A PARTNERSHIP between Golspie Lunch Club and development group Go Golspie has seen a renewal of a popular fish and chip supper initiative aimed at older people.

The lunch club secured £1000 funding from Age Scotland and linked with Go Golspie to deliver free fish and chip suppers every Friday for five weeks to the doorsteps of people aged 70-plus in the village.

Moira Hermiston, of the lunch club, said around 30 people, not all of them lunch club members, were thoroughly enjoying the weekly suppers from local chippie the Trawler.

She said: “We used to meet every other week in term time at Golspie community lounge, but haven’t done so since lockdown. We are just waiting to be told when we can start up again.

“It is a vulnerable age group and they are all mostly shielding or staying close to home.”

Go Golspie previously received funding from the Supporting Communities Fund for an initial spell of fish supper deliveries earlier this year.Director Richard Gale said it had proved so popular that it had started again by popular demand thanks to the Age Scotland aid. He said those receiving the suppers also welcomed the social interaction.
