An exciting opportunity has arisen for Gaelic speakers in Sutherland.

A group of university researchers are looking for people who are comfortable reading and writing Gaelic, to help develop the first "chatbots" for the language.

A chatbot is a software application used to simulate an online conversation in lieu of providing direct contact with a person.

Edinburgh Napier University is currently building the first tools for Gaelic chatbots, starting with the creation of a new dataset to train AI models.

A university spokesperson said: "We need examples of humans asking and answering questions about museum exhibits in a chat conversation."

Gaelic speakers who are selected to take part will receive up to £30 and will have the opportunity to be named as contributing to the resource, should they so wish.
