It is now what one would want to see next to a care unit located in one of Sutherland’s most rural and picturesque communities.

The lazy owner of a redundant old fridge obviously could not be bothered to make a trip to a civic amenity site where it could be disposed of properly under the Waste Electrical and Electronic (WEE) regulations

And instead, whoever was responsible simply dumped the fridge along with some plastic bin bags full of rubbish at the entrance to the NHS Highland run Melvich Community Care Unit in Portskerra.

The unit, which offers residential care for older people, is also known as Sinclair Court after the road in which it is sited.

The blatant act of fly-tipping has enraged members of Melvich Community Council as well as other local residents, who are proud of their community and their local environment.

A spokeswoman for the community council said it was not the first incidence of fly-tipping recently and police had been notified.

She said: “People have also been dumping rubbish on the high road of Portskerra by no 5 Bayview Terrace.

“Both these incidents have been reported to police.”
