The much-loved old Melvich Hall has been dismantled to make way for a new community hub.
The much-loved old Melvich Hall has been dismantled to make way for a new community hub.

Melvich Community Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) said it had secured all the grant funding necessary to cover the anticipated costs of purchasing land next to the former village hall, which has been taken down to make way for the new build.

SSE Strathy North Wind Farm Community Fund has provided 80 per cent of the cost and Caithness and North Sutherland Fund 20 per cent.

The group said on social media: “This means we can now move further forward with implementing the preferred option to demolish the old village hall, acquire adjacent land, and design/construct a new facility.

“We are now initiating the legal process to purchase the land for our new community hub. Once the land has been transferred into the name of Melvich Community SCIO, then we will be able to proceed with the detailed design of the new community hub in the knowledge that we have a clearly defined boundary.

“This is a major step closer towards having a spade ready project. We will be progressing the design specification stage in parallel with purchasing the land. Exciting times ahead.”
