Scourie Community Development Company (SCDC) has been granted renewed funding to enable free mental health support to continue to be offered in the area.

The organisation has been awarded grant aid from the National Emergencies Trust through Foundation Scotland.

Scourie is regarded as a 'red zone' where NHS mental health services are scant.
Scourie is regarded as a 'red zone' where NHS mental health services are scant.

This will pay for the Scottish Counselling Service to provide support sessions to young people aged 10 to 18 years.

A spokeswoman for SCDC said the group had previously applied for a tranche of funding to offer mental health counselling during the initial response to Covid-19.

Such was the uptake for the support that it was decided to apply for further funding.

The spokeswoman said: “SCDS decided to provide this service as Scourie is a ‘red zone’ for mental health – meaning it is acknowledged that access to NHS services is limited and this especially so for mental health support.

Scourie and district residents can self-refer or go through their family doctor or the SCDC for the confidential service. Those self-referring will have their eligibility checked by postcode.

The Scottish Counselling Service can be contacted on 0800 028 8533 or by email at info@scottishcounsellingservices.org.uk
