North of Scotland Water Authority (NoSWA) appears to be in effective breach of its existing consent to discharge raw sewage into the sea at Golspie, it was revealed this week. Following the intervention of local MP Robert Maclennan, it has been discovered that there is no maceration plant at Golspie as previously thought, and sewage is being pumped into the sea largely in its solid form.

Sutherland Education Authority has now put their foot down strongly on the practice and there shall be no more exemptions for caddying. Authority chairman Mr Andrew Lindsay said: "We are not going to have the youth of the country demoralised by caddying."

The Hon. Mr and Mrs Eric Chaplain visited the Doll, Brora, last week and presented gifts of tea, sugar and warm garments to the old people of the district. The gifts were greatly appreciated by the recipients who are loud in their praise of the generous donors.

A DEBATE on "Should women have equal pay with men for equal work", takes place at the British Legion Club, Golspie, on Tuesday evening first. The subject will no doubt be productive of many interesting discussions.
