A group that exists to support Sutherland’s hospital has revealed the purchases it has made in recent months.

The Lawson Cambusavie Memorial Hospital Friends (LCMHF) provides much needed items that the cash-strapped NHS is unable to supply.

It said it had recently bought a Bariatric wheelchair and a Sara Stedy for the Golspie hospital after consultation with staff.

A bariatric wheelchair is designed to meet the needs of people who are larger and heavier than an average wheelchair user.

Special features found on a bariatric wheelchair may include stronger materials and reinforced design and a seat made of heavy duty material.

And a Sara Stedy is a new enhanced standing aid that assists more mobile patients and residents to stand up independently.

Both items were purchased thanks to “thoughtful funeral collections and generous donations” made specifically to the Lawson Cambusavie Memorial Hospital Friends.

The group said: “Both pieces of equipment are in daily use and very much appreciated by staff and patients.”

LCMHF has also bought a Hi-Lo bed, which provides a range of height combinations to help find the most comfortable position for treatment and posture support.”

A second specialist bed has been requested and the group is planning to submit an order.

The hospital's Snowdrop room has also been provided with a sofa bed – the palliative care room at the hospital is named after the Dunrobin snowdrop.

LCMHF has also helped to brighten up the hospital’s relatives’ room, paying for it to be redecorated throughout and for a door roller blind to be fitted.

Lamps and four smart tvs have been provided for the lounge and side wards.

And the outpatients pain clinic has not escaped the group’s attention.

The area has been outfitted with specialist furniture, attractive coloured blinds and a digital radio.

A generous donation to the Friends from a grateful patient will be used to buy new bed covers or throws for hospital beds, to be chosen by staff.
