DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 5022 store sheep at its October 27 sale with a "frenzied" response to most in-demand beasts.

Lambs (3,364) averaged £58.43 and sold to £106 gross for Suffolk crosses from Old Mill Croft, Beauly.

Ewes (1,487) averaged £54.39 sold to £129 gross for a Cheviot from Tullyglens, Dunphail.

Feeding Sheep (171) sold to £190 gross for a Texel ram from Hollies, Beauly.

The verdict: “Another great number of lean hills lambs were forward today, and this type would cash in at comparable rates to those at the last sale. Anything that was big and carrying flesh met a tremendous trade being keenly bid for from all corners of the ring. The feeding ewe department met a frenzied bidding resulting in a dearer trade."
