Free family-friendly Dandelion Festival at Northern Meeting Park in Inverness aims to inspire people to sow, grow and share food, music and ideas
A free major outdoor festival is set to take place in Inverness later this year in a bid to inspire people to sow, grow and share food as well as music, knowledge and ideas.
The Dandelion Festival will be held at the Northern Meeting Park from September 2-4.
It will follow a similar festival at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park in June and forms part of an ambitious creative programme taking place this year.
Commissioned by EventScotland and funded by the Scottish Government, Dandelion is Scotland’s contribution to UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, a programme of creative events.
Dandelion brings together artists, scientists, performers, and technologists to present a six-month series of events and programmes throughout Scotland starting on April 28.
Its core theme is how people can creatively engage with topics such as food poverty, climate action and sustainability.
The festivals will include science and creative activities for all the family, talks, workshops and food plus live music from Scottish and international artists.
Dandelion’s music director, Donald Shaw, said the festivals will tell the
Dandelion story in creative, accessible, powerful ways and make the connections between growing and cultural experiences.
“These are truly family-friendly events with interactive demos, talks and discussion about art, science and music for everyone at all levels of interest,” he said.
Paul Bush, VisitScotland director of events, said his organisation was proud to support the project.
“The Dandelion Festivals promise to be an exciting addition to Scotland’s events landscape this summer, bringing together a creative programme infused with the collaborative spirit and environmentalist ethos of the Dandelion project,” he added.
