The 26-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for West of Scotland League team Pollok, started treatment for his condition last week.

Dykes was at Ross County for three years, joining the Dingwall club in 2016 and during his time at the Staggies, was sent on loan to Stranraer.

He left Ross County in 2019 to join Greenock Morton in the Championship, before going on to play for Stenhousemuir, Cumbernauld Colts, St Madoc and Pollok.

Ross County were among a number of clubs who offered their best wishes to Dykes, as he begins his treatment.

They wrote: "Wishing our best to former Ross County midfielder Dylan Dykes during this challenging time."

Pollok also released a statement confirming the news.

They wrote: "Unfortunately, Dylan has recently been diagnosed with cancer.

"His treatment started in the week before last and, despite that, he was at the match the following Saturday supporting his teammates.

"Dylan continues to be a valued member of the team and we look forward to him, once again, stepping on to the pitch in the black and white.

"It’s a terrible reminder of the indiscriminate nature of cancer and there will be many others around the game tonight who have, are, or will be affected by cancer but for tonight, let’s all take a moment to wish Dylan, his family and friends well, as no one faces this alone.

"From everyone associated with the Pollok family our thoughts are with you Dylan."
