MEMORIES came flooding back for an Easter Ross care home resident when he made an emotional return to the golf clubhouse he designed.
Robert Beaton, a resident at Innis Mhor care home in Tain, was delighted to return to Golspie Golf Club where he caught up with old friends and enjoyed a tour of the clubhouse and a buggy ride along the course.
The clubhouse and course hold a special place in the heart of a man regarded as a golfing legend in Golspie, the Sutherland village he comes from.
As an architect, Robert, he helped design the clubhouse which opened in 1967. He also enjoyed a long-playing career at Golspie Golf Club and was club champion in 1994 and president for several years.
In recognition of his contribution to the club, he was awarded the title of honorary life president in April 2016.
Robert said: “I very much enjoyed my day at the golf club. I did all the drawings for the clubhouse back in the day so I really enjoyed going out on the golf buggy and going round the course. I knew everyone and we had a good craic, so I’m looking forward to going back soon.”
Kate Walker, manager at Innis Mhor said: “Robert was absolutely delighted to visit Golspie Golf Club. It’s a club with a special place in Robert’s heart and he was very touched to be able to return and spend time at the club with those dear to him. The memories came flooding back and he was thrilled to see pictures from the past and enjoy a trip along the course.”
