A reunion of Golspie High School pupils recently resulted in nearly £750 raised in memory of a fellow pupil who died three years ago.

Leona Jones, originally from Brora, and Lesley Strang, Dornoch, arranged a school reunion at Golspie Golf Club for ex pupils and staff from Golspie High School who started at the school in 1994 and finished in 2000.

Despite horrendous weather, which sadly put a stop to some people attending, they all enjoyed a thoroughly good night.

They held a fundraiser in memory of Shirley MacDonald from Golspie, who sadly passed away in April 2016. After liaising with Shirley’s mother Margaret, she suggested donations to The Highland Rheumatology Unit.

In total they managed to raise £737. This included donations from folk who could not attend the reunion itself who wanted to contribute and they also set up an option on the night – every time anyone bought a round of drinks from the bar they would add “one for Shirley”.

Says Leona: "We are delighted with the amount raised and have been in contact with Shona Prestage of The Highland Rheumatology Unit to tell her the cheque is in the post!

"We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the fund and hope the unit can use this to help others. We would also like to say a big thank you to John and all the staff at the Golspie Golf Club who helped us with all the arrangements."
