A MIDWIFE from Durness was treated to a farewell party from her colleagues to mark her retirement after 36 years of service with the NHS.

Midwifery team leader Frances Arrowsmith has called time on her career to relocate with her husband Kevin from Durness to Inverness, ending 16 years’ service to her local community in north Sutherland.

Frances, who will be sorely missed, was presented with a number of retiral gifts, including a photo book which was compiled following a public appeal for photos from members of the community Frances has supported over the years.

Last year, she was named Scotland’s Midwife of the Year by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM).

RCM chief executive Gill Walton said: “Frances’ commitment to the women she cares for and ensuring they get the pregnancy and birth they want is truly extraordinary.”
