'Flying trade' at Dingwall Mart – though too many lean sheep 'plague the average'

THERE was a "flying trade" for ewes at a mart sale in Dingwall yesterday.
Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd sold 1403 prime sheep and 12 prime cattle at its sale.
New season lambs (696) averaged 235.2p per kg and sold to 282p per kg and £138 gross for a pen of Beltex crosses from Gaich Farm, Dulnain Bridge.
Feeding sheep (707) sold to £176 for a Texel cross ewe from Wester Craiglands, Fortrose.
The verdict: “Another solid lamb trade greeted vendors today, however the usual story of too many lean sheep forward is plaguing the sale average.
"A fantastic number of ewes met a flying trade, cashing in at dearer levels in particular the mules.”
