Air travellers will be able to make the trip from Inverness to Ireland for under £30 when the Flybe service between the Highlands and Belfast resumes this summer.

Flybe collapsed in 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic saw a massive fall in demand for air travel.

However, a former shareholder bought the airline's remaining assets and established a new headquarters in Birmingham with the aim of reviving the brand.

Flybe Ltd will begin offering flights next month, eventually flying up to 530 flights per week across 23 routes with more to be announced in the months ahead.

However, Highland air passengers will have to wait until August 25 before they can make use of the Inverness-Belfast City service, which will connect the Highland and Northern Irish capitals four times a week.

The good news is that passengers can still take advantage of Flybe Ltd's introductory offer, which is available today (March 22) only, offering £10 off domestic flight fares.

This brings the cost of an Inverness-Belfast ticket down from £34.99 to £24.99.

Flybe chief executive Dave Pflieger said: “We think our new flights will benefit everyone who wants low fares and more flights to go on holiday and visit loved ones.

“Our goal is to create an airline that people love, and we aim to do that by making air travel on Flybe an easy and enjoyable experience so you will fly with us again in the future. The new Flybe team has worked tirelessly over the past year to create an airline that delivers on price, schedule, and choice, and we look forward to having you book a ticket on flybe.com and start flying again next month, this summer, and in the many years ahead!”
