A 13-strong group, including members of the newly formed North West Highland Beach Cleans group, spent three hours picking up various items of rubbish from the beach. The total weight removed was 175.27kg which included 13m of fish farm pipe and the lid of a 500kg fish bin.

The North West Highland Beach Cleans group has been set up to allow people to upload what they collect from north-west Highland beaches and add it to a running total. The group covers the coast from Red Point near Gairloch to Cape Wrath.

The group posted: “If you enjoy beach walks and want to help the environment, get yourself a set of luggage scales, take a photo of what you pick up and the weight in kilograms and help keep our beaches clean.”
