Golspie’s Singalong group celebrated its first anniversary this week, having enjoyed a successful 12 months.

The informal group, which meets in the village’s Fountain Road Hall every Wednesday morning, now regularly attracts more than 20 people.

Founder Lesley MacGruer told the Northern Times: “This is not a formal choir but a group open to everyone, whatever your age and no matter your singing ability. It is a social gathering for men and women who enjoy a good singalong with friends.”

The group meet from 10.45am for around two hours with a mid-way break for tea or coffee, biscuits, and a chat. There is a small charge of £2 per week to cover hall costs etc.

Mrs MacGruer said: “We have been meeting every week throughout the summer and we would love to welcome new members. Just turn up on any Wednesday morning, but you don’t have to commit to every week if you don’t want to, just come along when you can.”

There are lyric sheets for each person with songs ranging from traditional Scottish and Irish to those from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and some wartime favourites.
