Development Group Go Golspie's new electric car was taken for its maiden voyage on Friday, February 5.

The vehicle, purchased partly with funding from the Climate Change Action Fund, was used to take two local people who cannot use public transport, to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Go Golspie board member Ian Sutherland, who was at the wheel, said, "They were very impressed with our electric car. It took me a while to find a changing point at Raigmore but I managed to get the car charged and take us home again. It is ideal for journeys like that."

The group already has a minibus which, amongst other functions, has been used since April 2020 to deliver more than 1200 hot meals to local residents self-isolating and shielding.

However it was felt it was not the best mode of transport for taking people with limited mobility to health appointments.

Meanwhile the group is looking forward to opening to the community Fountain Road Hall, which it has purchased from the Church of Scotland. Go Golspie has also agreed a 50-year lease of the village's dilapidated YMCA building and a renovation programme is in place.
