TWO fire units were still at the scene of a major fire affecting hay barns in Easter Ross today (Thursday) three days after the outbreak started.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said that they still did not have a "stop notice" in from Meddat Farm at Kildary near Invergordon.

The units still on scene dampening down smouldering hay bales were from Dingwall and Dornoch.

At the height of the blaze which was spotted about 3pm on Tuesday six fire units were at the 1040 acre farm overlooking the Cromarty Firth.

Initially units from Invergordon, Tain, Dingwall, Dornoch, Golspie and Inverness were sent to the scene.

Earlier, SFRS said: "We were alerted at 3.05pm on Tuesday, September 20 to reports of a fire affecting two farm buildings and hay bales near Kildary Bridge, Invergordon.

"Operations Control mobilised six appliances, a water carrier and other resources to the scene, where crews remain in attendance as they work to extinguish the fire."
