Firearm incident reported near John O'Groats

Three people were arrested following reports of a firearm being discharged at a farm near John O'Groats.

The incident, which took place on Monday, resulted in armed officers and specialist negotiators being called to the scene at Stemster, police said. It followed a report received by police of a possible firearm being discharged.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "No-one has been injured and there is no threat to the wider community. Two men and one woman were arrested and have been released pending further enquiries."
