Fire crews from Ross and Sutherland called out to wild fires at Dornoch

Fire units from Ross and Sutherland were called to attend wild fires near Dornoch on Saturday.

Firefighters from Invergordon, Tain, Dornoch, Golspie, Lairg, Helmsdale and Cromarty were called to tackle "Level 2" wild fires in late afternoon.

The blaze was brought under control and extinguished before evening.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.18pm on Saturday, March 19, to reports of a wildfire near Achvaich Road, Dornoch.

“Operations control immediately mobilised six fire engines to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A wildfire warning has been issued by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service pre-empting changes in weather patterns over the next few days.
