A SUBSTANTIAL fine and unpaid work have been imposed on a Tain man who committed three separate offences within the space of a month.

Robert Campbell, Balnagown Coach House, Tain, assaulted his partner on November 17, 2021, at an address in the town.

The 29-year-old pushed the woman, causing her to strike her head on a wall to her injury.

Two days later Campbell behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm in the Archway Public House, Queen Street, Tain.

The case called at Tain Sheriff Court.

He uttered derogatory comments to an employee there, repeatedly shouted and swore and challenged a man to a fight.

Then a month later on December 17, Campbell broke his bail conditions by contacting his former partner when he had been told not to.

All three cases against Campbell called at Tain Sheriff Court on Monday. Sentence had previously been deferred for Criminal Justice social work reports.

Defence lawyer Rory Gowans said Campbell had difficulties with his mental health that were ongoing.

He had been self medicating with alcohol after trying unsuccessfully to secure support.

The lawyer added that Campbell had the prospect of full-time employment as a tree planter.

Sheriff Gary Aitken imposed a total fine of £640, which includes a £40 victim surcharge.

Campbell was also given a community payback order with the requirement that he complete 160 hours of unpaid work within 18 months. And a non-harassment order was also imposed banning him from contacting his partner.
