We sat down for a coffee and Q&A with Phil Anderson, the founder of Phil Anderson Financial Services.

Q: What inspired you to become a financial advisor?

I love helping people! When I was involved in seeing clients, I enjoyed seeing them have peace of mind after our meetings. I’ve always wanted to make financial planning and financial advice accessible to people.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love when I can see clients benefit from the financial plans that we’ve put in place. On the mortgage side its always great seeing people move into their dream home and on the pension side it’s great when I see clients living the life they wanted when they retire.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering setting up their own business?

Go for it and hire a business coach. I’ve had several business coaches over the years, and this has been a massive help to me.

Q: What are the biggest rewards in running your own business?

The financial rewards for myself have been great but possibly the biggest reward has been the ability to go and do the things that I want to do. I am fortunate that the business runs profitably without me having to be there much and that allows me to spend more time with my family and on holidays.

Q: What are the biggest challenges?

Getting experienced financial advisers is our biggest challenge just now. Client demand for our services far outweighs what the current team can handle so getting more experienced advisers into our team is essential in 2024.

Q: What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

Around 10 years ago I read a book called Think your way to success by Mark Rhodes. The advice in that book helped me take the business and myself to another level.

Q: How do you relax away from work?

I love going away on holiday. I am a massive Denver Broncos fan and I love going over to watch them play. I love spending time with my sons although that’s maybe not very relaxing with having six boys.

Q: If you were planning a great escape where would you go?

I’ve been fortunate to visit some amazing places in the last few years. One day I would love to see the earth from space. That would be my dream vacation one day.
