Lairg & District Learning Centre is launching a series of online sewing workshops in the run-up to Christmas.

Tutor Jo Henderson will virtually demonstrate how to make gift items she has designed herself such as a reusable bottle bag, gift bag, crackers and Christmas cones.

Mrs Henderson will “walk” participants through the sewing process and answer any questions during the live two-hour workshops.

All the materials needed and instructions are supplied.

A spokewoman for the centre said: “These are truly unique sewing projects that will add a personal touch to any gift.”

The workshops are part of Lairg & District Learning Centre’s Seasons of Change project, delivered through the Climate Challenge Fund – a Scottish Government grant programme.

The aim is to reduce household waste during the festive season.

According to Zero Waste Scotland, Scots typically use more than 19,000 miles of wrapping paper at Christmas – enough to wrap tourism route North Coast 500 nearly 37 times.

The workshops are being held on Zoom and cost £10 per session with a concessionary rate of £1 – although these tickets are limited.
