Farr Eats makes first meal deliveries of 2023

Farr Eats – a subsidised meal service running on the north coast – has made its first deliveries of this year.

A total of 52 meals were delivered by contractor the Store Cafe, Bettyhill, on day one of the scheme last week across the three community council areas of Melvich and Strath Halladale, Strathy and Armadale, and Bettyhill, Strathnaver and Altnaharra.

The Farr North Community Development Trust brought back Farr Eats for a second year running after sourcing funding from SSE Strathy North Joint Community Benefit Fund.

The project will deliver low-cost meals twice a week until April. There is no qualifying criteria and any residents in the eligible areas can request a meal.

Community fish n’ chip meals will also be held for one day in February, March and April at village halls. The first community lunch takes place at Strathnaver Hall on Wednesday.

Farr Eats project officer Joanna Mackenzie, of the Store Cafe, said: “A massive thank you to our wonderful first customers of 2023, our caring delivery drivers and our caterer, the Store Cafe.”
