Planning is under way for the annual Doors Open Days festival – and groups in Caithness and north Sutherland are being encouraged to take part.

The annual programme aims to ensure that Scotland’s built and cultural heritage is made accessible to everyone living in and visiting the country, with venues throwing open their doors – free of charge – during September.

The theme this year is "the living heritage".

The Doors Open Days programme is organised by the Scottish Civic Trust in association with several regional coordinators.

In Caithness and north Sutherland, the weekend of September 16/17 will see a range of venues opening their doors to welcome visitors.

Some unique insights will be given into buildings that are not always open to the public.

Caithness and north Sutherland coordinator Ian Leith said: “Those taking part have always found it an opportunity to build connections with local communities and attract new audiences.

"If your building or space would like to be included then please contact me."

John O’Groats Mill, Nucleus and Dunbeath Heritage are among those in the far north likely to be taking part in Doors Open Days this year.
