The name of the elderly man who died in a house fire at Haster on Monday (March 14) has just been released by his family as Donald William Munro Connor.

Police Scotland released the information this afternoon in a short statement that read: "Just to advise that the family has approved the release of the man's name. He is Donald William Munro Connor (78) of Fountain Square, Haster, Wick."

Mr Connor died when the corner council house he lived in at Fountain Square caught fire around lunchtime yesterday with the emergency services attending to the blaze at around 2.40pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said that Mr Connor was the only occupant at the time and was found deceased within the property.

"There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal," added a Police Scotland spokesperson.
