The Far North Fellowship held a service of thanksgiving and remembrance at Melness Hall on Saturday for the life of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The well-attended special service was led by Dr Robin Taylor, from Edinburgh, a frequent visitor to the area and well known locally.

A wreath was laid in front of a photograph of the Queen by two of Melness’s oldest residents, Joan (Nana) Gallagher and Yvette Brown, who were supported by Sutherland Deputy Lieutenant Frances Gunn and local youngster Mia Martin.

Other children present at the service laid flowers alongside the wreath.

Piper Shirley Mackay played Flowers of the Forest.

Far North Fellowship representative Stuart Mingham said: “With much larger and more ceremonial commemorations in Edinburgh and London, this small service helped all present to feel a part of the nation’s mourning for the loss of a much-loved monarch.”

After the service, the wreath was given to the residents of Caladh Sona Care Home, and the flowers to some of the elderly in the community.
