Dunbeath crofter Jasmine Grant and her dog Pat are to represent Scotland in the Four Nations Nursery Sheepdog Final in Stafford tomorrow.

Ms Grant will be one of a five-strong Scottish team and her selection comes after six months of competing in the north league at trials across the north and north-east.

The league was particularly strong this year with more than 30 dogs and their owners. It culminated in the Scottish Nursery Sheepdog Final in Selkirk on Saturday, March 5, when 10 regional teams took to the field.

Jasmine was sixth overall and secured fourth place in the team with Pat. She also secured a reserve place with Lad.

“The sheep were tricky in Selkirk,” said Jasmine. “But Pat handled them very well round the course and had an excellent shed to complete the run. She is a lovely wee dog, Irish bred and works well on all kinds of sheep.”

It will be the second time Jasmine has represented Scotland at sheep dog trialling, the last time was in 2005 when she was part of the Scottish team which won the coveted BBC One Man and His Dog series final at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
