NHS Highland midwives in Sutherland are planning an extra special memento to mark the retiral of their team leader Frances Arrowsmith, and are asking local residents to help.

Her colleagues are keen to create a photobook containing photos of the many families Frances has cared for over the past 15 years.

The team are also keen to give families the opportunity to write a message to Frances to be included in her card.

Frances, who is relocating with her husband Kevin from Durness to Inverness, has been described by colleagues as “the most amazing midwife and human”.

Last year she was named Scotland’s Midwife of the Year by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM).

It was a well deserved award for Frances who has gone above and beyond to support women in far-flung and rural communities through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Many of her visits have involved round trips of up to 100 miles, often down single-track roads, in all weathers and all seasons.

RCM chief executive Gill Walton said at the time Frances was presented with the award: “Frances’ commitment to the women she cares for and ensuring they get the pregnancy and birth they want is truly extraordinary.”

Anyone wishing to contribute to the photobook is asked to email: francesretiral@gmail.com

All photos will be later deleted.
