'Extraordinary damage' to rail lines causes chaos for ScotRail passengers in the Highlands
Train travellers are being strongly advised to check their journeys in advance after “extraordinary damage” from Storm Isha closed lines.
Many services have been cancelled again today after extreme weather.
ScotRail’s social media is reporting that reduced services are running on the Far North Line and the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line as teams carry out repairs.
A large number of services to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen and Inverness are also cancelled.
A ScotRail spokesman said: “Several lines remain closed this morning pending line safety checks and repairs following Storm Isha.
“Please check our app, website or visit us at https://journeycheck.com/scotrail/ for the latest service information.
“There are still a number of lines that remain closed today since the routes need to be proven in daylight hours. They include the Kyle line, the Far North line and a number of routes from Glasgow Central.
“We're being inundated with messages asking for service information.
“It won't be possible to get to everyone. Any train services running will show in the ScotRail app, or on the Journey Planner on our website.
“A list of routes still closed has been pinned to our X feed.”
Scottish Citylink and Stagecoach bus services are reported as running mostly to schedule.
