Evening of 'poetry, spoken word and song' to be held at Helmsdale

A LITERARY event will take place in a Sutherland village in March.

Helmsdale Writers’ Circle is holding an evening of ‘poetry, spoken word and song’ at the village’s Othin House, a speciality food venue.

The venue hosted the three-day Scotland’s Indie Book Festival in September last year.

Helmsdale Writers’ Circle is a small group of creative writers who live in and around the port. The group meets every second Tuesday in Othin House.

A spokesperson for the writers’ circle said that the evening would see members read out a wide variety of short pieces written over the past year.

“We hope to have a renowned guest poet joining us too”, she said

The free event, which takes place on Saturday, March 9 from 7pm, is open to people over the age of 16. There will also be an opportunity for guests to share their own writing.
