An enterprising young Kinlochbervie man says he has had a “great response” following the launch of his own online clothing company.

Cameron Munro's fledgling business, Clash Clo (clashclo-store.myshopify.com), went live in August and is currently selling men’s oversized t-shirts and hoodies.

A former Kinlochbervie High School pupil, Cameron has worked in the aquaculture industry since the age of 17 and has no previous experience in the fashion world.

However, the 24-year-old has always had a keen interest in clothing and decided to create his own brand after struggling to find quality clothing at reasonable prices.

He said: “I remember spending most of my first month’s pay on Stone Island stuff that I absolutely did not need! Since then I’ve always looked at what different brands are doing to differentiate themselves.

“There aren’t enough brands that focus on making garments as high quality as possible while keeping the prices down, so my main focus was to do just that.”

Cameron approached a UK-based supplier and designer and took an online course to improve his business skills.

“The company was launched after about a year of planning, hard work and several pay packets down the drain buying samples,” he said.

“After several attempts and many disappointing samples, I feel I have finally got it right and made the correct choice.

“I don’t think there’s a better quality, softer, more comfortable hoodie than the one we're selling for £45. I also think our £25 t-shirt is as good as you can get for that price point.

“The market I’m aiming for is people who are in the same boat as me. A casual connoisseur of all things fashion who doesn’t like being ripped off.”

Fellow Kinlochbervie resident, Taylor Mackay, designed the company’s logo and modelled the T-shirts and edited photos for social media content.

The name Clash Clo is significant in that Kinlochbervie is often referred to as Clash, because part of the sea that flows into the village is called Loch Clash. The clo part is short for clothing.

Cameron said: “I wanted to start small and scale up so at the moment it is just hoodies and t-shirts and we sell through the website. The response has been great so far.”

Glowing reviews have been posted on the site with one customer saying: “Best quality clothing I’ve ever had at this price point. This brand is one to look out for in the future.”

Cameron is now looking to expand the business by adding more products and is also open to local businesses selling Clash Clo clothing.

“There are a lot of new ideas and projects in the pipeline which makes it a very exciting time for me and the brand,” he said.

“The aim is to take it as far as I can. It’s certainly not an easy market to break into, but it’s a challenge I am relishing. It’s the best feeling in the world to get sales and positive reviews after all the hard work that’s put in so far.”
