A NEW watersports enterprise has been established by two Brora natives to fill a gap in the market in East Sutherland.
Scott Miller has linked with Rhionna Mackay to establish Sutherland Adventure Company, a mobile business.
On offer is paddleboard and wetsuit hire as well as coaching at Brora and surrounding areas.
Both Rhionna and Scott have been paddleboarding for a number of years and have seen the interest in the sport increase because of lockdown and also the availablity of cheaper paddleboards in supermarkets.
Scott completed his International Surfing Association level one instructor course through North Coast Watersports in Thurso.
Rhionna, the manager of Lairg and District Learning Centre, recently set up the Brora Wild Swimming Group.
Scott said: “We want people to experience and enjoy the beautiful lochs and stunning coastlines that our area has to offer.
“We’ve seen the growth in popularity of tourism route NC500 and the tendency for people to go from John O’Groats straight to Inverness, bypassing our area.
“We want to give them something else to enjoy and encourage people to spend more time on the East coast as it has so much to offer.
He added: “The support we’ve received from our local communities has blown us away and we are so grateful that our idea has been so well received.”
The pair are starting a level one stand-up paddleboard instructor course in June and will be offering coaching to individuals and groups to help them build confidence on the water and in paddleboarding.
