The starting point for the triathlon is expected to be the football pitch at 11am on New Year's Day.

The first challenge for participants will be a two kilometre loop of Portskerra on foot, followed by a cycle run of a similar distance to the beach before finishing with a dip in the waters of the Pentland Firth.

There will be mulled wine and hot chocolate to warm people up afterwards.

The post continued: "Even if you don't think you would like to take part, do still remember to come down to the beach and join us to welcome in a new year here in Melvich."

Further details will be put up on the club's social media page in the run-up to the new year.

Anyone intending to take part is asked to register an interest in order for organisers to to have an idea of the likely turnout.
