A coffee morning in Embo celebrated its ten year anniversary on Saturday, raising a sum of over £4000 in aid of a cancer charity.

William Hamilton first organised the Embo coffee morning in 2012 and has raised over £18000 for MacMillan Cancer Support since that time.

A cancer survivor, Mr Hamilton (37) has been in remission for 17 years.

He said: "The lovely thing about our MacMillan coffee mornings is that it is a real community event and it brings people together.

"I wanted to give something back to MacMillan after I was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. I will be 17 years in remission on Friday.

"This was the busiest event we have ever had and it was so lovely to see the hall full of people enjoying themselves."

The coffee morning was held at the Old School hall in Embo, where it has made its home since moving from the football club pavilion in 2019.

A raffle and a silent auction was held on the day which local businesses, sports stars and tv personalities contributed to.

Prizes included a three night stay at Embo House, a round of golf at Brora golf club, a lambswool scarf from Tartan Creations, a bottle of gin from Dornoch Distillery, a wool throw from Kincraig Fabrics, afternoon teas at the Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch and Links House at Royal Dornoch, an autographed booked and signed photo from Lorraine Kelly and a bottle of Tomatin whisky.

The event also included a game area for children and face painting.

The total amount raised this year was £4240.
