Elphin's coveted Chicken Day will make a welcome return this September, following a two year hiatus.

Attendees can look forward to a range of competitions, refreshments, activities, and of course – the famous Chicken Race.

The event, which takes place on Saturday September 17 at Elphin Community Hall from 1pm to 4pm, will have no entrance fee but aspiring chicken day competitors will be asked to pay £2 to enter the chicken and egg competitions.

A representative for the event said: "The last Chicken Day was held in 2019, so it is uncertain if there will be any returning champion chickens after such a long time, but we can be sure that there has been a lot of interest – and locals are getting their hens and eggs organised for the biggest chicken event of the season."

Local primary schools are also set to be involved, taking part in the 'Best Decorated Egg Carton' competition, which will also be free for all to enter.

There will also be a cost of £1 for adults and fifty pence for children to enter the most of the other activities on the day.

Chicken Day goers can look forward to attending many of the same activities as before.
