The move comes after Highland Council received more nominations than there are seats on both Melvich Community Council and Bettyhill, Strathnaver and Altnaharra Community Council.

An election is to be held to decide the membership of Melvich Community Council.

Those standing for the Bettyhill council are: Ragnar Celli, Tim Curtis, Simon Lee, Joanna Mackenzie, Amanda Moseley, Patricia Munro, Josh Noble, Katherine Van Voornveld and Jessica Wright.

And the names put forward for Melvich Community Council are: David Anderson, Eileen Bryant, Peter Fittock, Ian Fling, Emma Griffiths, Sarah Humphreys, Madeline Lynch, Natasha Mackay and Catherine Simpson.

A 'withdrawal period' allows people who have put their names forward to pull out, but that ended on Tuesday.

Candidates have now been invited to submit a statement to support their candidacy which will be published online at the community council elections section of the local authority's website.

Ballot papers will be posted out to voters on October 31 to be returned by a deadline of noon on Monday, November 27.

The counting of the votes will be on November 27 from 2pm and will be broadcast live. Detailed information will be published on the council's website nearer the time.

A total of 10 community council elections are being held in the Highlands.
