The theme of Assynt Field Club’s meeting at the community room in Lochinver Village Hall next Thursday, December 16, is regeneration.

Guest speaker will be Andrew Painting, an assistant ecologist with the National Trust for Scotland at its Mar Lodge Estate National Nature Reserve, located in western Aberdeenshire.

Mr Painting grew up in the south of England and studied English at King’s College, London, and environmental anthropology at Aberdeen University.

He moved to Scotland to volunteer with the RSPB and has been in his current post since 2016.

Mr Painting will also have copies of his book “Regeneration: The Rescue of a Wild Land” available to purchase on the night.

Described by one reviewer as well-written, well-informed and thought-provoking, the book is an account of the ongoing conservation work taking place at Mar Lodge

A field club spokesman said: “This will be a blended talk with both a live audience and others joining us by Zoom.”

If you are not a field club member but would like to attend the meeting via Zoom, email:assyntwildlife@gmail.com and request the link.

The event starts at 7.30pm and is open to all. There is a £3 attendance fee, but under 16s are free.

Current Covid-19 protection measures will be followed at the in-person meeting.
