THE congregations of Tain, Portmahomack and Fearn and Nigg are uniting and holding a service of union tonight at 7pm.

The united Church of Scotland congregation will be called Easter Ross Peninsula (ERP) Church and will be part of Clèir Eilean Ì, the Presbytery of the Highlands and islands.

The charge is currently vacant as the Tain minister, Andrew Fothergill, retired from full-time ministry last September. Rev Doug McRoberts, the moderator of Clèir Eilean Ì, will attend.

Under the Presbytery Mission plan, Fearn Abbey is to be released, but the church hall will continue to be used for less formal café church services and midweek meetings. Tain and Tarbat (Portmahomack) are remaining open, though Tarbat is subject to review next year.

The service of union is being held at Tain Parish Church tonight from 7pm with refreshments afterwards in the church hall. All are welcome.
