The Rotary Club of East Sutherland has said a public thank you to those who supported the two recent fundraising events it coordinated in aid of international charity ImpACT.

Club spokesman Alistair Risk said that some £700 was raised in total.

Rotarian Simon Scott was ably assisted as bingo caller at the St Andrew’s night fundraiser by these two young lads.

The first event to take place was an Advent carol service, held at Dornoch Cathedral on November 28 – the first Sunday in Advent

It was a multi-church event with readings by five different clergy from the Church of Scotland to the Scottish Episcopal Church. The collection took in more than £270.

And a St Andrew’s night quiz and bingo night was held at Brora Golf Club at which Rotarian Simon Scot was a bingo caller and quiz mistress was Gillian Stephenson. Some £430 was raised.

Mr Risk paid tribute to Mr Scott, the club’s international chairman and the priest in charge at St Finnbarr’s Episcopal Church, Dornoch, for taking the lead on the fundraisers.

“A huge thank you to all involved and to the local public who supported both events,” he said.

The funding will be used by ImpACT to purchase clean birth kits for use by impoverished mothers-to-be in developing countries. The simple kit contains essential items for conducting a clean birth. Infection is a major cause of maternal death in developing countries.
