East Sutherland Rescue Association to join in D-Day national commemoration on June 6

East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA) is taking part in a national "Lamp Light of Peace" commemoration to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings and is inviting other local organisations to join in.

Beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man on June 6 at 9.15pm. Groups unable to light a beacon are being invited to light a lamp.

ESRA spokesman Antony Hope said an event will be held at the Cadogan Lifeboat Station at Dornoch Beach car park, which will include the lighting of a a beacon and a service of remembrance. Church bells will ring at 6.30pm that evening.

He said: "A meeting will be held at the lifeboat station on Monday March 18 at 9pm for any organisations wishing to be involved."
