A BRORA resident is trying to drum up support for an event to be organised in the county in celebration of King Charles III’s coronation next year.

Alistair Risk, a veteran Rotarian, says he hopes the East Sutherland Rotary Club will be involved but at present he is working towards it on his own.

It was recently announced that the coronation of Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, is to be held on Saturday, May 6.

He said: “I am initially simply trying to gauge interest as I was involved in running the previous events to mark the Queen’s Diamond and Platinum Jubilee and also her 90th birthday.”

Mr Risk has contacted a number of local organisations and individuals but has admitted he has as yet not made much headway.

“I have not had much response yet, probably as it seems a long way off,” he said. “However, while some key organisations have not got back to me or have said they need time to decide, others are very excited about the possibility of a coronation party or fete.

“And others, like Clyne Church, may run a concert or other event to enable the community mark the crowning of the new king.”
