A Sutherland man is challenging a claim that he was using his mobile phone while driving.

Kevin Ross (41) pleaded not guilty at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday and will stand trial next month.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on the A836, at the West Murkle junction with Castletown, on May 4, last year.

Ross, of Gloval, Forsinard, will return to court for his trial on April 21.

The hearing was fixed for an earlier date but it couldn't proceed then, as the accused's solicitor, Duncan Bird, was self-isolating as a Covid contact.
