A class of pupils from Dornoch Academy travelled to Edinburgh to visit the Scottish Parliament last week.
The group of forty modern studies students also attended First Minister's Question Time.
After lunch, the group met with Sir Edward Mountain MSP and Maree Todd MSP, who both represent the constituency of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross. The ministers answered a number of questions covering a range of topical issues.
Staff from the Parliament Education Centre then shared a presentation on devolved and reserved matters and the powers and role of the Scottish First Minister.
Afterwards, pupils were able to enjoy a spot of shopping at St James' quarter and a couple met up with older siblings who are attending university in Edinburgh.
Funding for the trip was provided by the East Sutherland and Edderton ward discretionary fund, which covered the £795 cost of coach hire for the day.
A spokesperson for the school said: "We are extremely grateful to our local councillors for supporting our trip and for allowing pupils to see the processes of democracy up close.
"We wish to say a big thank you to Miss MacLeod, Mrs MacLeod and Mr Parkin who, along with Ms Morrison, supported pupils on the trip."
