A NEW charity in Dornoch is making it possible for everyone to enjoy its beautiful beaches.
Earlier this month, Dornoch Beach Wheelchairs took delivery of a brand new electric powered, X8 All Terrain wheelchair that has come all the way from Australia.
A spokesperson for the charity said: "The chair will give the user a huge amount of freedom and independence, allowing even more people to access our beach, including those who might not have a carer able to accompany them.
"Our specialist beach wheelchairs enable families to enjoy being on the beach together, and they can even dip their toes in the sea, school children can take part in educational trips with their peers and many residents from local care homes have enjoyed being able to get back onto the sand."
Last year this volunteer-run charity helped 132 people to enjoy the simple pleasure of being at the seaside.
"This service has been life changing for many of the users, especially during the Covid pandemic.
"It is a unique facility in the north, and where better to operate from than beautiful Dornoch!”
The new wheelchair has been made available via funding from the Beatrice Partnership Fund and Scottish Hydro Electric Community Trust, who have also helped to provide electricity and water in the group’s shed at Dornoch beach car park.
Bookings for all five of their wheelchairs can be made in advance by calling 0300 770 4624, messaging through Facebook or visiting their website dornochbeachwheelchairs.co.uk.
