Catherine Macangus, who works out of the Highland Council’s service point in the former Dornoch courthouse, revealed she had already taken “quite a few bookings” for civil marriages.

In a Facebook post, she wrote: “It’s (Dornoch) turning out to be more and more popular every year.”

And Mrs Macangus, who stated that she “loved her job”, also revealed that couples are choosing a range of different locations for their weddings.

She revealed that some twosomes were preparing to be married on Dornoch’s beautiful, sweeping beach while others were tying the knot more conventially at the registry office. Alternatively, some couples are opting to get hitched at the town’s historic Castle Hotel and also at stunning Embo House.

“I am looking forward to marrying some amazing couples in 2020,” wrote Mrs Macangus.
